JET Motors Launches Nigerian Made Electric Buses, NADDC Promotes Sustainable E-Mobility in Nigeria

Abuja, Nigeria – In a significant stride towards sustainable transportation, JET Motors, an indigenous Nigerian company, has emerged as a leading brand in the African Automotive Industry, offering affordable and eco-friendly mobility solutions. The company’s latest achievement comes in the form of Nigerian made Electric Buses, which were recently unveiled at the headquarters of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).

During the unveiling ceremony held on July 10th, 2023, Mr. Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, Chief Operating Officer of JET Motors, expressed his satisfaction with the support received from the Council, hailing them as a committed partner. He emphasized that the approval of JET Motors’ electric vehicles (EVs) and charging infrastructure by the NADDC marks the beginning of a new era of possibilities for the company.

Osanipin noted, “Beyond embracing the current realities of the removal of fuel subsidy by the current administration, e-mobility appears to be the future, being an innovation that is positively disrupting the traditional mode of powering mobility.” He further shared his firsthand experience of test-driving one of the e-vehicles, highlighting the functionality and potential of the technology.

The Nigerian Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has long recognized the transformative power of e-mobility and its potential for Nigeria and Africa as a whole. Welcoming the EVs, Mr. Jelani Aliyu, Director-General of NADDC, recognized e-mobility as an unparalleled transportation solution for Nigeria and the entire African continent. He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to providing full support for the mass production of electric vehicles in Nigeria. Aliyu stressed the importance of seizing the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and positioning Nigeria as a key player in the EV market.

Aliyu emphasized, “The NADDC will continue to support Jet Motors Company and relevant stakeholders with applicable fiscal and non-fiscal incentives so as to continue to successfully build more of these E-Vehicles, positioning Nigeria on a platform to fully capitalize on the opportunities of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).”

Furthermore, he highlighted the motivation behind embracing e-mobility, stating, “The goal is to make life easier for Nigerians in a cost-effective manner – to ease the challenges occasioned by the high cost of Prime Motor Spirit (PMS)/Diesel.” Aliyu underscored the necessity for Nigeria to adopt e-mobility on a massive scale, viewing it as the country’s best course of action.

With JET Motors leading the charge in the production of electric vehicles in Nigeria, the nation stands poised to revolutionize its transportation sector. The advent of affordable and eco-friendly EVs not only aligns with global sustainability goals but also offers a promising solution to rising fuel costs.

As JET Motors paves the way for electric mobility, it brings Nigeria closer to a greener future and positions the country to play a vital role in the regional electric vehicle market. With the backing of the NADDC, the expansion of EV production and the development of charging infrastructure are expected to accelerate, further bolstering Nigeria’s transition to sustainable transportation.

The unveiling of the Nigerian-made 14-seater E-Buses represents a significant milestone for JET Motors and the country as a whole, marking the beginning of a new era of mobility driven by clean and efficient electric vehicles. These buses, designed for both passenger and utility applications, showcase the innovative capabilities of JET Motors and their commitment to providing accessible and eco-friendly transportation options for Africans.

The JET Motors 14-seater E-Buses are equipped with advanced features and technologies that not only enhance the passenger experience but also contribute to a cleaner environment. With zero tailpipe emissions, these electric buses are a game-changer in reducing air pollution and mitigating the effects of climate change.

The successful test run of the e-vehicles has provided a glimpse into the future of transportation in Nigeria. The positive reception and functionality of the technology have generated excitement among industry experts, environmentalists, and the general public. The launch of these EVs sets a precedent for other Nigerian companies to follow suit and embrace the transition to sustainable mobility.

The introduction of electric vehicles aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on climate change. By adopting e-mobility on a massive scale, Nigeria can significantly reduce its carbon footprint, improve air quality, and create a more sustainable future for its citizens.

The collaboration between JET Motors and the NADDC showcases the power of public-private partnerships in driving sustainable development. The Council’s continued support, including fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, demonstrates their dedication to nurturing the growth of the electric vehicle industry in Nigeria.

With the Nigerian government’s recent removal of fuel subsidies, the shift towards electric vehicles becomes even more relevant. E-mobility not only offers a cost-effective alternative to conventional fuel-powered vehicles but also reduces the country’s dependence on imported petroleum products. This transition will contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth and energy independence.

In conclusion, JET Motors’ unveiling of the Nigerian-made 14-seater E-Buses marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey towards sustainable transportation. With the full support of the NADDC, JET Motors is poised to lead the charge in the production of electric vehicles in Nigeria, revolutionizing the country’s automotive industry and positioning Nigeria as a key player in the regional electric vehicle market. The adoption of e-mobility on a massive scale not only addresses environmental concerns but also offers a cost-effective and efficient solution to Nigeria’s transportation challenges.
